Growing to many tills

Add a second till by scanning a QR; they sync over your own LAN for free, no cloud required.

Runs on generic hardware you already own — a complete DIY till costs from about £70. No multi-year tie-ins.

Your data, exportable, always

Full catalogue and sales export to CSV whenever you want. Your shop, your records — take them anywhere.

The internet going down never stops a sale. Everything works locally; syncing is a bonus, never a requirement.

See it in action

Manage your shop from anywhere

About us

Universal Till is built by Task Runner Technology LTD, a British company. We believe every shop — anywhere in the world — deserves a point of sale it truly owns: free, open, and free of lock-in. That's the whole reason we exist.

Questions shop owners ask

EPOS, POS, till system or cash register — what Universal Till is, and what it costs.

Is Universal Till an EPOS system?

Yes. EPOS (electronic point of sale), POS, till system and cash register all mean the software you ring up sales on. Universal Till gives you a touch sale screen, barcode scanning, receipts, stock and sales reports.

Is it really free?

Yes. The till itself is free forever on your own hardware: open source under the MIT licence, no monthly fee for the core, no contract. Optional cloud extras, such as off-site backup, may cost extra, and card payments carry your card provider's own fees.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. A full sale completes with no internet at all, and everything works locally on the till. Syncing is a bonus, never a requirement. A card reader still needs whatever connection its own provider requires.

What hardware do I need?

A Raspberry Pi, an old PC or laptop, a mini-PC or a proper touch terminal — there are downloads for Windows, macOS, Linux, Raspberry Pi and Android. A complete DIY till costs from about £70.

Can I take card payments?

Yes. We never sit in your money flow: use any card machine and any processor — no fee creep, no frozen payouts.

Can I move from my current till?

Yes. Export your catalogue from your current system and import it: Loyverse, Square, SumUp and Shopify exports are recognised automatically, and any CSV or Excel file with name and price columns works. You see a preview before anything is saved.
